Jen Erickson
Sad Math
February 7 – March 2, 2008 Opening Reception:
5-8pm
First Thursday, February 7, 2008
Artist will be in attendance the first and final Saturdays
of the month.
Jen Erickson uses her interest in physics, mathematics, identity
and the visualization of information systems as a point of departure
for her paintings. Gathered research from the Internet invades
the artist’s head and is allowed to fester and form new
connections to one another. Erickson uses these disconnected
investigations to formulate a visual response culminating in
her latest series Sad Math. Activated by her signature process
of minimalist graphite mark-making, these paintings are comprised
of tiny flying creatures and infinitesimally small zeros.
In addition to the February 2008 exhibition at PUNCH, Erickson’s
work was recently featured in a three-person exhibition titled
mêz’me-riz’em at
Bellevue Community College during January 2008. She received
her MFA in painting at Central Washington University in 2005
and currently resides in Coeur d' Alene, ID. When she’s
not making tiny marks, her time is divided unevenly between
snowboarding, mountain biking and raising future artists.
Hours: Noon-5pm Friday-Sunday,
or by appointment.
