"As a child I was led to believe that one of Charlie Russell's paintings depicted my father riding a bucking horse. In this image of the cowboy I saw my father."
– Justin Lee Martin

Justin Lee Martin's current work draws on his experience of being raised in western Montana. His experience of growing up in one of the last American frontiers, as compared to currently living in a metropolitan area, has oriented his view on how he observes, relates and understands place. This work investigates myth, humor, tragedy and their relationship to place; in particular small logging communities in the northwestern states.

Justin Lee Martin was raised in Montana where he received his BFA from The University of Montana and in 2011 completed his MFA from the University of South Florida, Tampa. He currently lives and works in Seattle, WA.
